Attention Blackberry users: Which to buy 8800 or an older model?
ok, I’ve done so much research that I want to jump in now to buy the Blackberry 8800. I found a good deal on Amazon for $94.00 if I agree to a 2 year plan which is fine with me. But after reading other reviews, I noticed one of the big flaws is the keyboard. Some users have complained about it being too slippery. And some don’t like the new middle rubberize ball to move around the screen.
Now I am really confused. By the way, a camera is not a big deal for me. I just want to check email, browse the web if needed and of course use it as my phone. I realize there is a new Blackberry 8830 that only Verizon will sell, but as always, I don’t need the latest and greatest.
Should I buy the 8800 or is there an older model that is just as good, but possibly lower priced than the 8800? The 8700??
If you are a user of the BB, please, oh please give me some down-to-earth advice – I mean real-world opinions. Buy the 8800 or save money and buy an older device?

I have used a 957. 7130, 7280, 7290, 8700, 8703, 8100 and currently I am using the 8800. I’ve seen and played with the 8830 is the same device (as is the 8700/8703) but not the curve yet (8300). The curve is essentially the same as the 88xx devices but a bit more consumer vs business.
By the way, with blackberries, the first two number tell you the footprint (like all “phone” style devices are x1xx).
Let me also say I am a big guy (6′3″, 300 lbs).
If you were a BB user before, there’s no doubt a learning curve to this new device. But that curve for me was 48 hours. Since then, I have been in love with this device. I can’t go back to the 87xx series. I mean, i could if I had to, but I would be kicking hard.
Also – NEVER sign a 2 year contract with anyone in regards to a bb. New models come out every year and I’ve yet to see a device in good shape after 18 months.
Now, if you have a cost issue, the 87xx devices are awesome. I loved using the two devices I did last year and I would recommend it highly. If the 88xx is out of the price range, get a 87xx. In about 2 months, they’ll both have the same device OS and then the difference will be even less.
